Lago di Como, the third largest lake of Italy
Lombardia hosts a number of lakes, among them being Lago di Como, the third largest lake in Italy and between the deepest lakes in Europe. It is around this lake that Como was built. The town can be traced back to the Bronze Age, as it has preserved most of its historical relics and beautiful architecture. You can see the remnants of the ancient wall that surrounded the town during the time of Julius Caesar.
The scenery around Lago di Como, or Lake Como, is exquisite and the temperate climate further complements its serenity. For centuries Italian aristocrats and wealthy families have treasured this place choosing it as a spot to mingle as well as build their expensive villas. A beautiful place to visit in this town would be the Villa Olmo, a neoclassic villa which will whet all your appetites.
A lake know worldwide for its stunning views
Though it is anchored by the Milan metro area, Lombardia is also well known for its expansive rural areas. Lombardia is perhaps best known for its rolling countryside, which plays host to a wide array of different agricultural venues and villas in Lombardia. There are plenty of natural areas that have been sectioned off and preserved by local authorities. Among these, Lago di Como is perhaps the most famous.
This is owing to its expansive and unique formation, which offers some surprisingly stunning views of the area. There are also many excellent resort towns situated along the edges of the lake itself. This has helped it to become well known as one of the most welcoming destinations for travelers in the area. Bellagio and Como are two cities that will form a base of operations for people headed in to the area.
